Successful Career Week
We hope your child enjoyed their involvement in career week last week. We had a wonderful assortment of speakers from all types of careers that gave out excellent information and advice. This year it was a little different from years’ past in that students from all 3 grades attended the same session and so each speaker spoke to an average of 75 kids at a time, and some spoke to as many 125. The students had taken an assessment test to evaluate their interests and aptitudes and each fell within at least one of sixteen clusters. Below are the clusters and the speakers that shared with the kids.

UPDATE on PTA MEETING JANUARY 31ST
We had a good turnout for this meeting. You can read the minutes from this meeting as soon as they become available. Thanks to everyone!!!
An Ice Cream Sundae party was held Monday, February 6th during lunch for those kids whose parents attended this meeting.
Please mark your calendars to attend our next HMS PTA meeting on Monday, April 23rd.
Message from the Chairperson
In 1990, February was declared “PTA Month” by President Bush and similar resolutions were made throughout the country by local governments. This recognition helps instill the importance of PTA in our communities. HMS PTA would like to invite all adults who are involved in our students’ lives to join our PTA: Fathers, grandparents, other family members, anyone who influences your child’s life around the home. One way to share the importance of the PTA with the children in your life is to serve on a committee. In addition to the Winter Dance, we still have openings for volunteers on the Field Day committee and the Teacher Appreciation committee. Please click on “Contact Us” to show your interest in these committees – OR – send a note with your child, addressed to PTA, and have them deliver it to Mrs. Jarman in the front office.
Library Transformation
One of the PTA’s largest projects this year will be to honor Mr. Chrestman’s wishes of making HMS’ library a place for the kids to want to come and a place that offers comfortable reading areas. After the Book Fair which is November 14-18, the PTA will, under the direction of the school librarian, Alison Lee, begin working on sprucing up the library. We intend to get some comfortable furniture, rugs and accessories, and to do some painting as well. If you would like to be involved in this project please use the “contact us” tab to let us know if you can donate your goods, your services, your talents or your manpower. WE ARE EXCITED ABOUT THIS, and want parents and teachers involved in any way you are able.
