Common Core will be generally explained in a 6 minute video from the National PTA.  Following will be a more detailed explanation and discussion of a handout created by Dr. Marla Davis of the MS Department of Education, Office of Curriculum and Instruction.  Find out what will affect your middle school child for the remainder of her/his middle/high school experience.

If you only attend one meeting of PTA ever, this one is full of important information regarding YOUR child.

1)  The nominating committee will announce its nominees for officers for the 2013-2014 school year.  The vote for next year’s officers is not until the meeting on April 15th.

2)  Field Day will be discussed.  If you signed up already for the committee, or if you haven’t but would like to volunteer, please plan to attend  this meeting.  Field Day this year is May 17th.  You may volunteer all day if you are able (7:30-3:00) or any part of that day.  If you cannot attend Field Day at all, but want to volunteer in some way, there will be plenty of “at home” work to do!  Either attend the meeting this night to hear plans or offer your input, or “contact us” through this website, or contact one of the current officers.

There will be awesome door prizes from all over Hernando to give away to attendees that night.

Students may bring in their ORDER FORM with their payment.  We will have collection mornings between 6:55am and 7:25am November 26 through November 30^th.  All card orders must be in by November 30^th in order to receive the cards in time to pass out before the Holiday break.  Payment types are CASH, CHECK OR CREDIT/DEBIT CARDS (not American Express).

Gift cards purchases do not stop then!  You may continue to order scrip gift cards all school year.  Just remember to plan ahead.  After the Christmas break for the rest of the year, we will only place one order per month.  On the last Friday of each month, PTA will have a morning collection of orders and payments before the bell rings.

Each gift card offers a different percentage that HMS PTA receives for selling the card.  The percentage that the PTA receives from each card is noted beside the retailer.

Please consider buying cards, not only for gifts and stocking stuffers this Holiday Season, but for Birthdays, Graduation, Mother’s and Father’s Day, Easter, and any special event.  Most of all, please consider purchasing cards from us for your own personal shopping.  If you know you will spend the money at a restaurant or retailer for your family, buy the card first, and PTA receives a percentage.  If you have a large home improvement, consider buying a Lowe’s or Home Depot card first.  If your family is planning travel, please consider the hotels, cruises and Disney cards.  If your company or your small business needs gift cards for employees, consider buying them from us.

There are no hidden fees – you get what you spend on the face of the card.  A $25 gift card that you pay $25 for, is worth $25 at the store or restaurant.  The benefit for PTA comes from the percentage that the retailers give to us for selling the card to you.  However, for credit card purchases, we need to add 3% to recover our costs of that benefit to you.

Finally, please communicate to all of your friends and family how they can purchase through us to help HMS.
